After spending an entire month exploring every corner of Path of Exile 2's Patch 0.5, it's easy to understand why so many players consider it the game's strongest update yet. With hundreds of hours invested into testing different builds, farming methods, and Atlas strategies, the new endgame feels more complete and rewarding than ever before. Whether you're optimizing your build, experimenting with farming routes, or collecting valuable POE2 Currency, this patch delivers one of the most enjoyable gameplay experiences the series has offered so far.
The biggest victory of Patch 0.5 is undoubtedly its complete endgame overhaul. Previous versions often pushed players toward only one or two efficient farming methods, making the experience repetitive after enough playtime. That is no longer the case. Almost every major mechanic now feels worthwhile, giving players the freedom to choose strategies that match their preferred playstyle. From mapping to boss farming and specialized Atlas mechanics, the endgame finally feels diverse instead of restrictive.
The Atlas passive tree also deserves significant praise. Compared to earlier iterations, every point invested now has a noticeable impact on gameplay. Choosing specific paths feels meaningful, and specialized farming strategies are much more rewarding than before. Instead of feeling like minor statistical bonuses, Atlas passives actively shape how players approach each mapping session.
However, one feature is still missing: Atlas respecs. Since certain passive nodes can unintentionally weaken particular farming strategies, players who make the wrong choices often feel trapped. Being forced to wait for future updates instead of simply reallocating points discourages experimentation. Introducing an Atlas respec option would make the system much more player-friendly without reducing its strategic depth.
Another impressive improvement is the current state of build diversity. Unlike previous patches where only a handful of builds dominated the meta, Patch 0.5 allows many different archetypes to perform well. Popular community statistics show a much healthier distribution across various classes and skills. Although balance isn't perfect, players now have considerably more freedom when choosing how they want to experience the game.
Ironically, player power may have become slightly too high. Many builds are capable of defeating powerful bosses with relatively little investment, reducing the sense of challenge that should define endgame content. Rather than continuously increasing character strength, future updates should introduce tougher encounters capable of pushing optimized builds to their limits.
Despite these major successes, several systems continue to frustrate experienced players.
The tablet mechanic is perhaps the most obvious example. Trading tablets is unnecessarily complicated because every modifier and numerical roll affects their value differently. Pricing them accurately requires extensive market knowledge, causing many players to simply ignore them. As a result, supply remains low while trading becomes slow and inconvenient. Compared to Path of Exile's scarab system, tablets feel more complicated without providing additional enjoyment.
City mechanics also create questionable gameplay incentives. Because cities offer significantly stronger bonuses through additional tablet effects and increased rewards, players naturally ignore ordinary maps while searching almost exclusively for city layouts. This creates a gameplay loop that feels remarkably similar to the old tower-hunting meta—a style many players were happy to leave behind. Instead of encouraging exploration, the current system unintentionally narrows player choices.
Biomes present another layer of unnecessary complexity. While biome bonuses certainly increase potential rewards, they mostly add preparation time instead of meaningful gameplay decisions. High-end players feel obligated to chase ideal biome combinations, while casual players barely notice the mechanic at all. A simpler system with permanent Atlas choices would likely create a smoother overall experience.
Grand Mirrors represent another area that could benefit from redesign. Since Delirium remains one of the strongest mapping mechanics, waiting for Grand Mirrors to randomly appear often interrupts efficient farming sessions. Making them tradable items similar to other Atlas resources would greatly improve quality of life while creating additional trading opportunities.
One concern extending beyond individual mechanics is the overall difficulty of the game. With each major patch, bosses have gradually become easier, and many powerful builds can eliminate endgame encounters with minimal investment. While accessibility is important, Path of Exile has always been known for offering difficult content that rewards mastery. Future updates should introduce Uber bosses or other high-end encounters that challenge experienced players rather than continuing to lower the overall difficulty.
Balance improvements also remain necessary. Although build diversity has never been stronger, the gap between the strongest and weakest skills is still substantial. Some builds effortlessly dominate every encounter, while others struggle to remain viable even with significant investment. Narrowing this gap would further improve the game's healthy meta.
Another questionable change involves map rolling. Requiring additional Omens simply increases preparation time without adding interesting decision-making. Reverting this adjustment would streamline the mapping process and eliminate unnecessary frustration before each farming session.
Overall, Patch 0.5 is a tremendous success. The redesigned endgame, impactful Atlas tree, wider build diversity, and multiple profitable farming strategies have made Path of Exile 2 more enjoyable than ever before. While mechanics such as tablets, cities, biomes, Grand Mirrors, and overall difficulty still require refinement, the game's foundation is incredibly strong heading toward Version 1.0. If Grinding Gear Games continues listening to community feedback and polishing these remaining systems, Path of Exile 2 has every opportunity to become one of the greatest action RPGs on the market. Players looking to accelerate their progression and prepare for future content often choose to poe 2 rmt so they can spend less time grinding and more time enjoying the evolving endgame.
